• Question: Is there any immediate danger once being stung with the venom

      There is no immediate danger from a Lion’s Mane Jellyfish sting, unless someone is allergic to the venom or has a medical condition (e.g. heart condition, just like in the Sherlock Holmes story about the Lion’s Mane). The stings are painful but this is usually temporary and accompanied just by local redness.

      This is pretty lucky for us as the stinging cells in the tentacles can keep stinging even after the jellyfish has died. In 2010 over 150 people were reportedly stung – possibly from only one Lion’s Mane Jellyfish which had been broken up in surf near the beach!
