Good question! We don’t actually know! Lots of scientists have looked at the hottest temperatures jellyfish can survive in, but nobody seems to have looked at how cold they can go. The Lion’s Mane Jellyfish is found in Arctic waters, which go down to -1.8 degrees celsius before freezing, so we know they can survive at least down to that temperature. Below this temperature they’d need to have really special adaptations to stop the water in their cells freezing! This is something we might find out about if we get a Lion’s Mane genome!
